Crocodylus intermedius

$295.00

Crafted from .925 sterling silver with a splash of peridot. These are set as studs with .925 sterling silver posts.

This critically endangered crocodile can only be found in the Orinoco river basin in Venezuela and Columbia. Orinoco crocodiles (Crocodylus intermedius) are opportunistic predators who feed primarily on fish, but will take other prey if possible. They are absolutely massive, with males reaching up to 17ft! Threats to this species have been primarily due to excessive hunting for its hide. It has been protected since 1970 but populations have not yet recovered. Other threats include collection for wild animal trade, pollution of the Orinoco basin, competition from spectacled caiman, and a proposed dam to the upper Orinoco River.

A portion of the proceeds from this piece will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund to aid their efforts to protect endangered species and landscapes worldwide.
